Why most architecture decisions fail in enterprises
A practical breakdown of where things go wrong and how to fix them.

Helping organisations make better technology decisions in complex environments.
Led 100s of application migrations, dozens of large transformations, and 6+ enterprise-scale AI initiatives.
I'm a hands-on Enterprise Architecture leader who has spent the last two decades helping banks, telcos, retailers and platform businesses turn ambitious strategy into systems that actually run in production. I've worked across the US, Australia and with clients around the world — long enough to know the patterns, recent enough to keep up with where the industry is heading.
My approach is simple. Start from the business outcome. Strip away the noise. Pick the smallest design that holds up under real constraints — cost, risk, regulation, people — and grow from there. Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.
I'm TOGAF-certified, comfortable across AWS, Azure, GCP and OCI, and well versed in regulatory environments like APRA, GDPR and government control frameworks. Along the way I've also mentored architects and engineering leaders, and supported early-stage startups as a technical and architecture mentor.
Six areas where I've delivered, repeatedly, for organisations that can't afford to get it wrong.
TOGAF-certified, practical and grounded. I start from the simplest thing that works and explain it in plain language — to the board, to engineers, to everyone in between. No ivory tower, no 80-page reference architectures nobody reads.
Specialist in retrieval augmented generation, agentic workflows and LLM training and fine-tuning. Helping leaders separate the hype from the hard problems and ship AI that earns its keep.
Stack-neutral and proficient across AWS, Azure, GCP and OCI. Lift-and-shift, re-platform or rebuild — I'll match the pattern to your reality, not to a vendor's pitch deck.
Deep experience integrating and migrating CRM, ERP, HRMS and Finance platforms. The unglamorous work that quietly decides whether a transformation succeeds.
Very familiar with APRA prudential standards, GDPR, and government regulatory controls. I design for compliance from day one rather than bolting it on at the end.
End-to-end transformation programs across banking, telecommunications, retail and travel. Strategy, target architecture, roadmap and the operating model to make it stick.
A snapshot of organisations I've delivered architecture, cloud and transformation work for across the US and Australia.
Engagements span banking, telecommunications, retail, travel, credit and information services. I've also supported early-stage startups as a technical and architecture mentor.
I contribute through leadership, architecture thinking, and sharing real-world lessons.
I speak about Enterprise Architecture, AI, and lessons from real-world delivery. I also run training sessions to help teams strengthen architecture thinking and decision-making.
Keynotes, panels and conference talks delivered to audiences of architects, engineering leaders and senior executives across Australia and the US.
Story-led and interactive — closer to a campfire than a lecture hall.
Alongside the day job, I coach architects, engineering managers and technology leaders who want to grow into senior roles. The format is interactive and story-driven — I share what I've seen work (and fail) across two decades, and we apply it to whatever you're navigating right now.
From Senior Architect to Principal, Chief or Head of Architecture — the technical bar is the easy part. We work on influence, narrative and judgement.
For tech leads and managers who want to think more architecturally and lead through ambiguity rather than firefighting.
Group sessions for in-house architecture or platform teams going through reorgs, cloud migrations or AI adoption.
A few things I've come to believe after two decades in the room.
Real architecture impact comes from alignment, not control. The best decisions are ones the team owns, not ones I forced through.
I focus on building trust so people choose to work with me, not because they are forced to. It's a slower start and a much better finish.
Strong relationships lead to better decisions and better outcomes. Every difficult call is easier when there's history and respect underneath it.
I have made mistakes throughout my career and learnt more from them than from any success. That experience shapes how I approach decisions today.
Subbu has a rare ability to take a messy program and turn it into something the leadership team can actually agree on. He cuts through the noise without ever being dismissive.
The most pragmatic architect I've worked with. He brings the rigour of TOGAF without ever waving the framework around. Outcomes first, every time.
His coaching changed how I show up as a tech leader. The stories stick — months later I still catch myself thinking, "what would Subbu ask here?"
